Hit The Deck Running

Block 3 Year 1

Hit The Deck Running

We had to choose an audio clip from a selection offered to us by our teachers, then we had to translate this audio to a certain scenario that coulnd't be too obvious and animate it in 3D. This included the entire pipeline from obtaining/making models to rigging, skinning and rendering. It was the first 3D animation I made.

It is defenitely not my best work, and I'm fully aware. However, it was an amazing learning opportunity and I believe it's good to see the difference between my first and most recent 3D animation.

SUBTEXT 1

-Recruit!

>Sailor!

-When I give you the word I want you to exit my building to the left and
hit the deck running.

>I’m projecting my past trauma on you where I served as a captain and lead my men into countless battles.

I want you to fall in on those yellow footprints with your body at
the position of attention no lollygagging around in my area.

>I seem very strict but it’s actually just a way of showing love. In
reality I just want to play with you.

Head (nice?) straight forward.
You understand me? (yes daddy) I dont hear you? (yes dad)

>Are you even listening? (no)

SUBTEXT 2

-Recruit!

>Sailor!

-When I give you the word I want you to exit my building to the left and
hit the deck running.

>I’m taking my role as a pirate way too serious and I´m genuinly excited to pretend that I am one.

I want you to fall in on those yellow footprints with your body at
the position of attention no lollygagging around in my area.

>I seem very loud and harsh because I want your attention.

Head and eyes straight forward.
You understand me? (yes daddy) I dont hear you? (yes dad)

>Are you even listening? Are you having as much fun as me? (no, dad you’re way too serious about this, we just build a fort out of some blankets and a stick and you’re not really a pirate)

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

– his profession: full time dad, but served as a captain on a flying ship in his younger days.

– age: somewhere in his late 50’s

– what excites him?: life as a pirate

– what makes him mad? Lollygagging around, not eating seafood for a week, Captain Silver-Tongue

– what is his driving motivation? Ruling the 7 sea’s/the sky, and his kid

– how does he look at life? Simple-minded guy, ‘wat de boer niet kent vreet ‘ie niet’-kind of guy takes things way too serious sometimes.

– how is/was his relationship with his parents? His children?: Obviously he has a tragic backstory where his parents died. Not in a car crash though, maybe more epicly. They probably jumped in a vulcano strapped to a shark’s back that’s also covered in explosives.

His kid is his everything. He loves her deeply! However, he can also be a bit of a pushover sometimes. His daughter is used to it though.

– What are his basic attitudes? : Wantonly, hard on the outside but soft on the inside, dramatic.

– Is there an interaction with an antagonist: how does he compare and contrast with him?: No, there is no interaction. However he has a harsh dislike for captain Silver-Tongue, his arch rival. They’re actually quite similar, but they just always try to surpass each other in every aspect. They usualy seem like
they genuinly hate each other, but it’s actually more of a love-hate relationship.

– what kind of movements fit him and why? (think about weight, mass, size, energy level, point of intention): He is very round, his belly is bouncy,
he has this grumpy look on his face. There’s a lot of stretch and squash going on when he moves. His limbs are kind of fluid, there’s no clear bonestructure. His arm’s are relatively short, and his legs too. However, he moves quite energetically for someone of his shape.

– If your character would be an animal: what animal would that be? Maybe a hedgehog, very spiky on the outside but with a soft belly.
